Harrison Packaging Strengthens Leadership Skills to Drive Growth and Service Excellence

Harrison Packaging provides sustainable carton packaging solutions across a diverse range of sectors, including healthcare, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, industrial and household. Working with leading UK brands, we understand that in today’s market, packaging suppliers must deliver more than products alone.

For our customers, reliability, expertise, quality and service matter just as much as price. By delivering consistent operational excellence and strong customer relationships, we can add value that helps our customers succeed while strengthening long-term partnerships.

As we continue to grow, ensuring our teams have the leadership skills and operational knowledge needed to support our customers and drive the business forward is a key priority.

Investing in Our People

Regional training provider NC Group conducted a comprehensive training audit at the Harrison Packaging site, including consultations with key personnel, to develop a tailored workforce development strategy aligned with our growth ambitions.

One of the initiatives resulting from the audit was a Leadership Skills Bootcamp, designed to strengthen leadership capability across our management team while supporting career development and operational improvement throughout the business.

Why We Chose NC Group as Our Training Partner

We chose to work with NC Group because of its strong focus on engineering, manufacturing and leadership development, making it a natural fit for Harrison Packaging’s operational environment. Its programmes are built around real-world industry challenges and delivered by experienced professionals who understand the demands of modern manufacturing and supply chain operations.

As two North East-based businesses, the partnership also reflects a shared regional commitment to developing skills and supporting local industry. As both businesses are in the region, NC Group was able to deliver the training onsite at Harrison Packaging, allowing our team to learn within their nown operational environment.

The depth and breadth of the bootcamp modules, combined with NC Group’s reputation as an Ofsted Outstanding training provider for its apprenticeships, also gave us confidence that the programme would deliver measurable impact for our people and our business.

Leadership Skills Bootcamp Overview

The programme was delivered onsite over 16 weeks (60 hours) by tutor Graham Watson, with 13 members of our team completing a range of modules designed to strengthen leadership, operational efficiency and people management skills.

Participants attended a selection of modules from the following programme:

Craig Turnbull, Managing Director at Harrison Packaging, said: “The bootcamp has been a fantastic opportunity for our management team to enhance leadership skills while directly applying learning to day-to-day operations.

“In a competitive market, investing in our people ensures we can continue delivering the high levels of service our customers expect while building strong relationships across every sector we serve.”

Liam Noble, Managing Director at NC Group, added: “Working with Harrison Packaging and delivering a tailored leadership programme onsite demonstrates how practical, industry-focused training can create immediate impact. Managers have developed skills they can apply straight away, strengthening both teams and operational performance.”

Supporting Career Development Across Harrison Packaging

The Leadership Skills Bootcamp forms part of a wider commitment to career development and skills progression across the business.

Alongside leadership training, Matthew Turnbull, Facilities Technician at Harrison Packaging, is currently completing a Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship with NC Group.

We also have a strong track record of developing print-specific talent through the BPIF apprenticeship programmes. Many of our skilled print and design studio operators began their careers through this route, and we currently have two print technicians progressing through their apprenticeship with BPIF Training.

By investing in leadership development and skills training, we ensure our teams support our continued growth while maintaining the service excellence, operational reliability and strong customer relationships that Harrison Packaging is known for.
